STAND FIRM

Welcome brothers and sisters, I urge you
Heed my words today
We are more than conquerors, sweet church, yes this I dare to say
The oppression you feel will not last forever
For the Lord stands firm by his children’s sides through all fearsome endeavours
We can do everything through Christ who gives us strength.

So what is strength? Explain it to me
To force your authority over someone through brute force?
To enslave innocent children with no remorse?
To take away a man’s sense of identity
Who they are, their love ones and their family?
If that is your idea of strength then you have gravely mistaken me

And where is this God you say has never forsaken me?
Does he see my pain when he’s there at my side?
Does he see the hurt in my tired eyes?
And my heart, does he know how broken it is?
How worn down and chewed up undone it is?

Indeed times for the clenching of fists will arise before us
But let us not be like the wild beasts, charged with with bloodthirsty lust
Flee from the temptation of violence when it exposes itself
For violence brings forth more violence
Causing pain to pass through time until there’s nothing but silence
From generation upon generation hate grows
And clouds the minds and grabs hold of its victim’s souls
Leave the cause of hate to be lost with the past

Why? When affliction and suffering continues to last

So let us join forces as one to break this curse of hate towards one another
That has imprisoned us causing resentment towards each other
Now I know what I ask of you may seem impossible
To forgive and forget
All the anguish we have felt
I understand, I see with my own eyes

How they look at us with hate and despise?
They hate our black skin
How it is so tough yet thin
They hate our dance moves and our rhythm

Compared to their awkward 1-2 step that looks like a chicken

God holds every name across his palm in one line

Well maybe there wasn’t enough space to write mine
I don’t see him, do you?

Not so much, for a while
I see anger, I do, and I also see pain.
Frustration and weakness and cruelty and shame.
The way they look at us, like filth, like sad little lepers.
Where is our dignity Pastor? And where is our shepherd?

In the past they thought of us as retards, who were good for nothing
And used us as mere tools for farming and scrubbing
Walk around like Gods, like a superior race
And treat us like animals of some insignificant race

Just last week I heard on the news of lynching all over
I prayed and I prayed, tell me please, when will this all be over?
When will we be truly free?
To be happy and black, to be proud to be me
To see black as my pride, not a stain of a tragedy?
Or the mark of a slave, endowed by his majesty?

Deep within me I admit, the anger that I feel
But my Father up heaven teaches me to let go and be healed

My son was taken from me and I will never see him again
Embrace him in my arms and see his sweet little grin
That pain doesn’t just die or wither
More like it festers, it grows and spreads like tumour
My mind and my heart, it consumes me all over

But the Lord opened the eyes of my heart and showed me his face
His love and mercy and filled me with His grace
I tell you now he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into His kingdom
Where we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins
Liberate yourself from the hurt, and release the chains of hate and agony that bind you
For the Lord tells us to love our enemies and do good to them
And lend to them without expectation of return

Then our reward will be great and we will be sons and daughters of the Most High
Because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked

Let us show love and kindness to our oppressors
And leave the battle to the Lord, for indeed he has rescued us from dominion of darkness
To all who feel they are weak and unable to forgive and forget

Trust on His Word and lean on Him for strength
For he says,

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
Therefore I say delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.

For when we are weak, then we is strong.

This my family is true strength
